DrinkTheChange
One hears a lot about how startups morph. You start out doing one thing and end up in a completely different space. I’d say that is what has happened with our climate change project, The Sinking Manhattan.
Originally it was conceived as a cocktail recipe book with 40 recipes reflecting the causes and conditions of climate change. From around the world, with a broad focus, the cocktails were created to represent issues from Tuvalu to Italy, Montana to Iceland. Each cocktail, heavily researched, provided a jumping off point to talk about everything from mosquitoes to coffee plantations to flash droughts to carbon.
The book proposal got done. A thing of beauty it was! Our NYC agent said, “Looks great! But where is your platform? We need more development first.” Wait… what? Yes, we need to build and bring our audience with us.
…and DrinkTheChange emerged!
DrinkTheChange is all about people. About conversation. About engagement. It is a project that takes place across the country – in bars, restaurants, and other venues. It is a week long event where professionals create and customers imbibe climate cocktails. And together we learn and discuss what’s really going on in our world.
Its also an opportunity to make a donation benefiting one of our nonprofit partners who are doing some very important work around the climate.
So its starting now or rather its continuing – a new way of looking at something. And it’s a good thing! We’ve got a lot to do – we hope you stay for the evolution of an idea.
